Philips UV-TL 8W – Replacement bulb for UV-C units | Effective control of suspended algae and pathogens

The Philips UV-TL 8W is a high-quality, standalone 8-watt UV-C fluorescent bulb, specially designed for use in UV-C units for pond systems. This bulb has a total length of approximately 301 mm (including pins) and fits a variety of common UV-C systems.

When this bulb is placed in a UV-C unit, the pond water is pumped past it. The bulb then emits ultraviolet light in the UV-C spectrum. This part of the light spectrum has a powerful disinfecting effect: it damages the DNA of microorganisms, such as algae, bacteria, and fungi, preventing them from reproducing. This effectively eliminates suspended algae, pathogens, and fungi, resulting in clear and healthy pond water.

The Philips UV-C bulb is therefore an essential component of filtration in pond systems. It not only ensures visually clean water, but also contributes to a healthy ecosystem for fish and plants.

Lifespan and maintenance

The effective lifespan of this UV-C bulb is approximately 1 year (8,000 hours). Although the bulb continues to emit light after this period, the UV-C intensity decreases significantly. This means that the bulb loses its disinfecting effect, even though it may still appear to be working. Therefore, it is important to replace the bulb annually and on time to ensure your UV-C unit operates optimally.

Application and compatibility

This Philips 8W fluorescent bulb is compatible with a wide range of UV-C units and pond filters from various brands. When replacing the bulb, always check the wattage and length of the old bulb to ensure you choose the correct size. The bulb is easy to install thanks to its standard fitting and dimensions.
