Specially developed for spas and hot tubs

Spas have different water treatment requirements than many swimming pools. The water is generally kept at a significantly higher temperature and is used intensively due to the relatively small water volume.

The Blue Lagoon Spa UV-C is therefore equipped with a special T5 21W HO UV-C lamp suitable for use at temperatures up to approximately 40°C. This makes the unit specifically tailored to spa and hot tub installations.

UV-C as a supplement to water treatment

During use, the spa water is circulated through the UV-C unit by the circulation pump. Inside the reactor, the passing water is exposed to UV-C radiation.

This UV-C radiation inactivates bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms and prevents them from multiplying further. The UV-C unit thus provides a valuable supplement to the regular filtration and chemical water treatment of a spa.

UV-C does not replace the normal monitoring and treatment of the spa water. It remains necessary to regularly check, among other things, the pH level and the disinfectant used, and to maintain them at the correct level.

Capacity up to 10,000 liters

The Blue Lagoon Spa UV-C T5 21W was developed for spa installations with a water volume of up to approximately 10,000 liters.

For effective UV-C treatment, not only the lamp power is important, but also the speed at which the water flows through the unit. The recommended flow rate for a UV-C dose of 30 mJ/cm² is 3 m³ per hour.

The maximum flow rate of the unit is higher, but for effective UV-C treatment, it is advisable to take the recommended flow into account when designing the installation.

21-watt T5 HO UV-C lamp

The unit uses a VGE T5 21W HO 4P UV-C lamp. This lamp is specifically suitable for the higher temperatures found in spas and hot tubs.

The stated lifespan of the lamp is approximately 9,000 operating hours. Even when a UV-C lamp continues to visibly glow after a long period, its effective UV-C output gradually decreases. It is therefore advisable to monitor the lamp's operating time and replace it in good time.

Electronic ballast with LED indicator

The Blue Lagoon Spa UV-C T5 21W is equipped with an electronic ballast. This controls the UV-C lamp.

The version with an LED indicator makes it easy to check the status of the lamp. A green indicator shows that the lamp is functioning. When the indicator turns red, the UV-C lamp should be replaced as soon as possible.

The electronics operate at 230V AC, 50 Hz.

50 mm connections

The standard Blue Lagoon Spa UV-C T5 21W is equipped with 50 mm connections. This allows the unit to be incorporated into a fixed spa or hot tub installation.

The housing is made of PC-ASA plastic. The reactor has a diameter of approximately 58 mm and the unit is approximately 35 cm long. The weight is approximately 1.9 kg.

Thanks to these compact dimensions, the UV-C unit is well suited for use when the available space around the spa installation is limited.

Maximum pressure and flow rate

The maximum allowable operating pressure is 1 bar. The recommended flow rate is 3 m³/h at a UV-C dose of 30 mJ/cm².

During installation, the flow direction must be correctly maintained. The water should flow through the UV-C unit from bottom to top. This limits the chance of air becoming trapped in the device.

The UV-C unit does not have an integrated water pump. A suitable circulation pump is therefore required to circulate the spa water through the device.

Maintenance

Periodic maintenance is important for proper operation. In addition to replacing the UV-C lamp, the quartz glass must also be checked regularly.

Limescale and other deposits on the quartz glass can cause less UV-C radiation to reach the passing water. Therefore, clean the quartz glass when visible deposits are present and also check the O-rings and connections during maintenance.

Always switch off the power supply before maintenance and ensure that the unit is depressurized. A UV-C lamp must never be switched on outside the closed housing, because UV-C radiation is harmful to the eyes and skin.
