Tech UV Transformer T5 40W- 2015 - SuperFish

The Tech UV Transformer T5 40W - 2015 - SuperFish is a replacement ballast for the older SuperFish Tech UV-C T5 40 Watt. The transformer forms the electrical part with which the T5 UV-C lamp is controlled and can be replaced separately when the existing ballast is defective.

In a UV-C installation, the lamp and the ballast are two different parts. The lamp produces the UV-C radiation, while the ballast provides the electrical control needed to make the lamp function. When the ballast becomes defective, a good UV-C lamp may still not switch on.

With this separate SuperFish Tech UV transformer, specifically the electrical part can be replaced without having to replace the entire UV-C installation immediately.

For the older Tech UV T5 40 Watt

This transformer is intended for an older version of the SuperFish Tech UV T5 40 Watt and is designated with 2015.

That is important when ordering spare parts. SuperFish has delivered different versions of its UV-C devices over the years. Parts from newer and older generations are not automatically interchangeable.

Therefore, always check the existing device and the current ballast before ordering a replacement part.

Electrical control of the T5 UV-C lamp

A T5 UV-C lamp needs a suitable ballast to function. The Tech UV Transformer 40W is matched to the 40 watt T5 lamp used in the suitable SuperFish Tech UV-C.

When the UV-C unit is switched on, the ballast provides the electrical control of the lamp.

A defect in the ballast can manifest itself, for example, in a UV-C lamp that no longer switches on. It is important not to immediately conclude that the lamp itself is defective. Both the lamp and the ballast and electrical connections can play a role.

First check which part is defective

When the SuperFish Tech UV-C no longer functions, it is wise to first determine where the problem lies.

A UV-C lamp is a wear part and gradually loses its effective UV-C output during use. Eventually, the lamp may also stop lighting completely.

When a suitable and working 40 watt T5 UV-C lamp is not switched on, the ballast can be a possible cause.

In addition, check the connections and cabling for visible damage before replacing parts.

For a 40 watt T5 UV-C lamp

This transformer is specifically intended for a 40 watt T5 UV-C lamp. Therefore, do not use it as a universal ballast for other lamp wattages.

Many different lamps are used in UV-C installations. Even when two devices both use a T5 lamp, the wattage, the length of the lamp, the connection and the electrical configuration can differ.

The T5 designation alone is therefore not sufficient to determine compatibility.

The lamp wattage of 40 watts
The use of a T5 UV-C lamp
The version/model generation of the device

Part for the Tech UV series

The SuperFish Tech UV-C series was developed for UV-C treatment of pond water. Here, the pond water is guided through the UV-C housing using an external pond pump.

Inside the housing is the UV-C lamp behind quartz glass. The quartz glass prevents direct contact between the electrical lamp and the pond water, while the UV-C radiation can reach the passing water.

The UV-C unit itself does not provide water circulation. For this, a suitable external pond pump is required.

A UV-C device is generally used as a supplement to a mechanical and biological pond filter.

Transformer and lamp are separate parts

The Tech UV Transformer T5 40W is intended exclusively as a replacement electrical part. The T5 UV-C lamp itself is not included.

This is important when you want to repair an existing Tech UV-C. When only the lamp has reached its effective lifespan, you do not automatically need to replace the ballast as well.

Conversely, a new lamp will not fix a defective ballast.

By first checking which part causes the malfunction, the correct spare part can be replaced specifically.

Also check the quartz glass

When performing maintenance on a UV-C unit, it is wise to also check the quartz glass.

Due to contact with pond water, lime, dirt and other deposits can form on the quartz glass over time. A heavy buildup can reduce the passage of UV-C radiation.

Therefore, carefully clean the quartz glass if necessary. At the same time, check it for cracks or other damage.

The quartz glass is not a part of this Tech UV transformer and must be replaced separately if necessary.

Do not confuse with the ALU Tech UV-C

In addition to the Tech UV series, SuperFish has also released the ALU Tech UV-C. Although T5 UV-C technology can be applied in both series, this does not mean that every electrical part is automatically interchangeable.

This transformer is specifically offered as Tech UV Transformer T5 40W - 2015.

Therefore, do not use only the wattage of the lamp to determine if the ballast is suitable. Always check the model of the existing UV-C unit.

No universal T5 ballast

Outside the SuperFish Tech series, there are also many UV-C devices that use T5 lamps of similar wattages.

However, this transformer should not be considered a universal 40 watt T5 ballast.

Differences in connection, construction and electrical configuration can cause a ballast from one device to not be suitable for another device.

The safest starting point is therefore to use this transformer exclusively as a replacement part for the suitable SuperFish Tech UV T5 40 Watt version.

Safe replacement

A UV-C ballast is an electrical part. Therefore, always switch off the entire UV-C installation and connected pond pump before performing maintenance.

Unplug the plugs from the socket and ensure that the installation is completely de-energized before parts are opened or removed.

During replacement, check the connections, cables and surrounding parts for visible damage and moisture. Mount the new ballast in the designated position and fully close the UV-C unit before it is switched on again.

A UV-C lamp must never be switched on outside the designated closed housing. Never look directly at a burning UV-C lamp, because UV-C radiation is harmful to eyes and skin.

Targeted replacement of a defective part

When the housing, the quartz glass and the other parts of the Tech UV-C are still in good condition, a defective ballast does not immediately mean that the complete UV-C unit must be replaced.

With the Tech UV Transformer T5 40W - 2015 - SuperFish, specifically the ballast of the suitable older 40 watt T5 version can be renewed.
