Topclear 18000 transformer 18 watts <2023 - SuperFish

The TopClear 18000 Transformer 18 Watts <2023 - SuperFish is an original replacement part for the UV-C section of the older SuperFish TopClear 18000 pressure filters. This version is identifiable by its red colour and is intended for the older model generation from before 2023.

The transformer is an important part of the integrated 18-watt UV-C unit. It provides the electrical control for the UV-C lamp. When the existing transformer fails, the UV-C lamp can no longer function correctly, while the other filter functions may still be active.

With this separate replacement unit, the relevant UV-C section can be repaired without having to replace the entire TopClear 18000 pressure filter.

Red version for models <2023

When ordering a new transformer, it is important to distinguish between the different generations of the TopClear 18000.

This variant is the red 18-watt version and is designated by SuperFish for TopClear 18000 models <2023.

For the newer generation, there is a separate green 18-watt transformer. The red and green versions should therefore not be interchanged without checking.

Always check the version of the part currently fitted to the filter before ordering. If you have a red transformer on an older TopClear 18000, this variant is intended for that.

Transformer with cable and lamp holder

The part consists of the electrical unit for the UV-C lamp and is supplied as a transformer with cable and lamp holder.

The transformer, also known as a ballast or starter, ensures that the UV-C lamp is electrically controlled correctly. The lamp holder forms the connection for the suitable lamp.

This allows the complete electrical control of the UV-C to be replaced separately when the original unit is defective or damaged.

The UV-C lamp itself is not part of this transformer and must be replaced separately if necessary.

Specifically for the 18-watt UV-C

The TopClear 18000 uses a 18-watt UV-C lamp. This transformer is specifically matched to that version.

Within the TopClear series, there are different models with different UV-C wattages. For example, there are versions of 7, 9, 11 and 18 watts. The corresponding electrical parts are therefore not automatically interchangeable.

Therefore, use this transformer specifically for the TopClear 18000 with 18-watt UV-C for which it is intended.

Suitable UV-C lamp

The TopClear 18000 uses a specific 18-watt UV-C PL lamp with G23 fitting. The lamp has a length of approximately 236 mm and is designated by SuperFish as the special 18-watt version.

It is important to choose the correct type when replacing the lamp. Not every 18-watt UV-C lamp is automatically suitable for this TopClear.

The lamp is not included with this transformer.

When is replacement necessary?

When the UV-C of a TopClear 18000 no longer functions, a defective transformer can be one of the possible causes.

However, it is wise to first check whether the UV-C lamp itself still functions. A UV-C lamp is a wear part and must be replaced periodically to maintain sufficient UV-C output.

When a suitable, working UV-C lamp is not switched on, the problem may be in the ballast, lamp holder, cable or electrical connection.

Therefore, check the system first before deciding which part needs to be replaced.

For the SuperFish TopClear 18000

The transformer is specifically intended for the SuperFish TopClear 18000.

This pressure filter is developed for ponds up to a maximum of 18,000 litres and features an integrated 18-watt UV-C. The TopClear combines mechanical and biological filtration with UV-C treatment of the passing pond water.

The TopClear 18000 has connections of 25, 32 and 40 mm. The complete TopClear 18000 Kit is combined with a SuperFish PondECO 4900 pond pump with a capacity of 5,300 litres per hour and a power consumption of 29 watts.

Difference with the UV-C service kit

Various spare parts are available for the TopClear 18000. In addition to the transformer, there is, for example, a separate UV-C service kit.

The transformer is intended for the electrical part of the UV-C and provides the control and connection of the lamp.

The UV-C service kit is intended for parts around the quartz glass and the seal of the UV-C construction.

When, for example, only a seal or the quartz glass is damaged, the transformer does not automatically need to be replaced. Conversely, a new service kit does not solve a defect in the electrical ballast.

UV-C lamp not included

This TopClear 18000 transformer is supplied as a replacement electrical unit. The 18-watt UV-C lamp is not included.

When only the UV-C lamp is worn out, it can be replaced separately without needing a new transformer.

The quartz glass and the parts of the UV-C service kit are also not included with this transformer.

This way, during maintenance, you can specifically replace only the part that actually needs replacement.

Not universally applicable

Although other UV-C devices can also use an 18-watt lamp, this transformer is not a universal 18-watt UV-C ballast.

The part is specifically designed for the SuperFish TopClear 18000 of the relevant generation. The connection, lamp holder and construction must match the filter system in use.

A transformer from another TopClear model should also not be used as an alternative just because it looks similar.

Therefore, always check the model, UV-C wattage and version of the existing part.

Safe replacement

Before carrying out work on the TopClear, the complete filter system must be switched off.

Unplug the UV-C and other electrical equipment from the socket and ensure that the system is completely de-energised. Do not leave the filter under pressure when you are going to dismantle parts.

During replacement, check the cable, connections and surrounding parts for damage or traces of moisture.

Mount the new transformer in the designated position and ensure that all parts are correctly reconnected and sealed before the system is switched on again.

A UV-C lamp must never be switched on outside the housing intended for it. Never look directly at a lit UV-C lamp.

Original spare part for targeted repair

Because SuperFish offers many parts of the TopClear separately, an existing filter system can be specifically maintained.

When only the transformer of an older TopClear 18000 is defective, the complete pressure filter does not have to be replaced immediately.

With this TopClear 18000 Transformer 18 Watts <2023, you specifically replace the red electrical unit of the UV-C installation and the existing TopClear can continue to be used when the other parts are still in good condition.
