The TopClear 18000 Transformer 18 Watt >2023 - SuperFish is an original replacement part for the UV-C section of the newer SuperFish TopClear 18000 pressure filters. It is the green version of the ballast/transformer and is specifically intended for the TopClear 18000 with an integrated 18 watt UV-C lamp.

The transformer provides the electrical control of the UV-C lamp. When the existing ballast becomes defective, the UV-C lamp can no longer function correctly. With this separate spare part, you can specifically replace the electrical part without having to immediately replace the complete TopClear pressure filter.

With this version, the color is especially important. For older TopClear 18000 filters, there is also a red 18 watt transformer. This green variant is intended for the updated generation.

Green version for the newer TopClear 18000

This transformer is the green version for the SuperFish TopClear 18000.

For the TopClear spare parts, SuperFish distinguishes between older red and newer green versions. The current parts information from SuperFish links the green 18 watt ballast to the latest generation TopClear 18000.

The product is often referred to as >2023. For certainty, always check the color of the existing unit. If your TopClear 18000 has a green version, then this green ballast is intended for it.

Original ballast with lamp holder

The part consists of the 18 watt ballast/transformer with lamp holder.

A UV-C lamp needs a suitable starter to be able to function correctly. The ballast provides this electrical control, while the lamp holder forms the connection for the UV-C lamp.

This allows the unit in question to be replaced in its entirety when, for example, the original ballast or lamp holder has become damaged or defective.

The UV-C lamp itself is not included and can be replaced separately if necessary.

Specially for 18 watt UV-C

The TopClear 18000 is equipped with a 18 watt UV-C unit. This transformer is specifically tuned to this power and this filter system.

That is important, because different UV-C powers are used within the TopClear series. A ballast from a smaller TopClear model is therefore not automatically suitable for the TopClear 18000.

Also a random universal 18 watt ballast should not be used as an alternative without question. The connection and construction must fit the specific UV-C unit.

Therefore, use this transformer as a replacement part for the green 18 watt version of the SuperFish TopClear 18000.

Part of the TopClear 18000

The SuperFish TopClear 18000 is a pressure filter for ponds with a maximum specified pond volume of 18,000 liters.

The filter combines different forms of water treatment. The filter material provides mechanical and biological filtration, while the integrated UV-C unit exposes the passing pond water to UV-C radiation.

The TopClear 18000 has:

When should the transformer be replaced?

When the UV-C lamp no longer switches on, this does not automatically mean that the ballast is defective.

Therefore, first check the UV-C lamp itself. UV-C lamps are wear parts and gradually lose their effective UV-C output during use. Eventually, a lamp can also completely stop functioning.

If a suitable and functioning UV-C lamp also does not work, then the problem can be in the ballast, lamp holder, cable or electrical connection.

Therefore, first check which part is actually defective before ordering a new transformer.

UV-C lamp not included

With this transformer, no UV-C lamp is included.

When only the 18 watt UV-C lamp needs replacement, you do not automatically need to replace the ballast.

Conversely, you can replace a defective ballast separately when the existing UV-C lamp is still usable.

The quartz glass and the associated seals are also not part of this transformer.

Difference with the UV-C service kit

For the TopClear 18000, several other spare parts are available besides this ballast. One of them is the UV 11-18 Watt Service Kit Green.

The two products have different functions.

The 18 watt transformer is intended for the electrical part and provides the control and connection of the UV-C lamp.

The UV-C service kit contains parts around the quartz glass and the seal of the UV-C construction.

With damaged quartz glass, you therefore do not automatically need a new transformer. When the ballast is defective, replacing the quartz glass will not solve the electrical problem.

No universal UV-C transformer

This SuperFish ballast was specifically developed as a spare part for the TopClear 18000 and should not be considered a universal 18 watt UV-C transformer.

Other UV-C devices can also use an 18 watt lamp, but that does not mean that the connection and construction are the same.

Therefore, always check:

• The model of the filter
• The UV-C power
• The color of the existing ballast
• The version of the TopClear filter

For this transformer, it must be a TopClear 18000 with green 18 watt ballast.

Safe replacement

Because you are working on an electrical part of the filter system, the TopClear must be completely de-energized before you replace the transformer.

Switch off the pond pump and UV-C and remove the plugs from the socket. In addition, make sure that the pressure filter is no longer under pressure before you open or disassemble parts.

During replacement, check the cables, connections and surrounding parts for damage and moisture. Mount the new part in the same way as the original unit and make sure everything is correctly sealed again before the installation is switched on again.

Moreover, a UV-C lamp may never be switched on outside the housing intended for it. Never look directly at a burning UV-C lamp.

Separate replacement part for targeted maintenance

Because different parts of the SuperFish TopClear are available separately, an existing filter system can be repaired in a targeted manner.

When the pressure filter itself still functions well and only the ballast of the UV-C is defective, a completely new filter does not have to be purchased immediately.
