The PondClear 12000 Transformer 13 Watt >2023 - SuperFish is an original replacement part for the UV-C section of the newer SuperFish PondClear 12000 pond filters. It is the green version of the ballast and was specially developed for the integrated 13 watt UV-C unit.

The transformer, also known as a ballast or starter, provides the electrical control for the UV-C lamp. When the existing ballast becomes defective, the UV-C lamp can no longer be switched on correctly. With this separate replacement transformer, this specific part can be replaced without having to replace the entire PondClear filter.

When choosing the correct spare part, it is important to distinguish between the different generations. For the older PondClear 12000, there is a red 13 watt transformer. This variant is the green version for the newer generation.

Green version for the newer PondClear 12000

SuperFish distinguishes between an older red and a newer green UV-C ballast for the PondClear 12000.

The green version is often referred to in trade as >2023. In SuperFish's current parts classification, this version is linked to model >2024. Because the year of production, year of sale, and model generation do not always coincide exactly, it is best to check the color of the existing transformer if in doubt.

If your PondClear 12000 currently has a green 13 watt ballast, then this version is intended for that. For an older PondClear 12000 with a red ballast, a separate red variant is available.

Original 13 watt UV-C ballast

The ballast is specifically matched to the 13 watt UV-C of the PondClear 12000.

A UV-C lamp needs a suitable starter to function. The ballast provides the necessary electrical control for the lamp.

When the ballast becomes defective, the UV-C lamp may fail while the rest of the filter system may continue to function. The pond water can then still flow through the mechanical and biological filter material, but the additional UV-C treatment is no longer active.

With this separate transformer, the electrical part of the UV-C can be replaced specifically.

Specifically for the PondClear 12000

This ballast was developed as a spare part for the SuperFish PondClear 12000.

The PondClear 12000 is a pond filter in which mechanical filtration, biological filtration, and UV-C treatment are combined. The complete filter is suitable for ponds up to a maximum of 12,000 liters and features an integrated 13 watt UV-C.

The PondClear 12000 uses several types of filter material. The passing pond water is first mechanically cleaned, after which the biological filter material offers a large surface area for beneficial bacteria.

The UV-C unit forms an additional step within this filter system.

First check which part is defective

When the UV-C lamp of the PondClear 12000 no longer functions, this does not automatically mean that the ballast is defective.

The UV-C lamp itself may also need replacing. In addition, a damaged connection, cable, or lamp holder can cause the lamp not to function correctly.

Therefore, first check whether the UV-C lamp is still good. When a suitable and functioning 13 watt UV-C lamp also does not switch on, a defect in the ballast or electrical connection can be a possible cause.

This prevents a transformer from being replaced while the problem is elsewhere in the UV-C unit.

UV-C lamp not included

This product specifically concerns the green 13 watt ballast/transformer.

The corresponding UV-C lamp is not included. When only the lamp is worn out or defective, it can be replaced separately without also having to replace the ballast.

The quartz glass and the seals around the UV-C construction are also not part of this transformer.

Difference with the UV-C service kit

For the newer PondClear 12000, other UV-C spare parts are also available in addition to the green transformer.

The PondClear 12000 Transformer 13 Watt Green is intended for the electrical part and provides the control of the UV-C lamp.

The corresponding green UV-C service kit is specifically intended for parts around the quartz glass and the seal of the UV-C construction.

When, for example, only the quartz glass is damaged, the transformer does not need to be replaced. In the case of a defective ballast, replacing the quartz glass will not solve the electrical problem.

Features of the PondClear 12000

To check if you have the right filter, it is useful to know a few characteristics of the complete PondClear 12000.

The PondClear 12000 has a:

• Integrated UV-C of 13 watts
• Inlet connection for 25/32/40 mm
• Outlet of approximately 75 mm
• Dimensions of approximately 55 x 38 x 43 cm

The PondClear 12000 Kit is combined with a PondECO 4900 pond pump. This pump has a capacity of approximately 5,300 liters per hour and a power consumption of 29 watts.

This data refers to the complete filter system and not to the separate transformer. It can, however, help identify the correct PondClear model.

Not suitable for other PondClear models

This 13 watt ballast is specifically intended for the PondClear 12000.

Different UV-C wattages are used within the PondClear series. For example, the PondClear 3000 has a 5 watt UV-C and the PondClear 6000 has a 7 watt UV-C. Separate ballasts are available for these models.

Therefore, do not use this 13 watt version as a replacement for a transformer with a different wattage.

Compatibility is also not automatically guaranteed for other UV-C devices with a similar lamp wattage.

No universal 13 watt ballast

The PondClear 12000 Transformer 13 Watt Green is a model-specific SuperFish spare part.

Another UV-C unit may also use a 13 watt lamp, but that does not mean that the electrical connection, mounting, and construction are the same.

Therefore, always check before ordering:

• The filter model: PondClear 12000
• The UV-C wattage: 13 watts
• The color of the existing ballast: green
• Whether it is the newer version

This prevents you from ordering a ballast for the wrong PondClear generation.

Safe replacement

Switch off the entire pond installation before performing work on the UV-C. Remove the plugs from the socket and ensure that the installation is completely de-energized.

During replacement, also check the cables, connections, and surrounding parts for damage and moisture. Place the new ballast according to the construction of the original part and ensure that everything is correctly reassembled and sealed before the installation is switched on again.

Never switch on a UV-C lamp outside the housing designed for it and never look directly at an switched-on UV-C lamp.

Repair your PondClear 12000 specifically

Because different parts of the PondClear are available separately, the entire pond filter does not need to be replaced immediately in the event of a defect.

When the filter housing, filter materials, and other parts are still functioning properly and only the UV-C ballast is defective, the transformer specifically can be replaced.

With the PondClear 12000 Transformer 13 Watt >2023 - SuperFish, you replace the green 13 watt ballast of the newer PondClear 12000 and the existing filter system can continue to be used.
