Plankton Later 400g - Hikari
€23,00
Hikari Plankton Later 400g is a special rearing food for young koi and other fry in a later growth stage. This Later variant is the largest food size within the Hikari Plankton series and is developed for young fish with a body length of approximately 18 to 30 mm.
During the first growth stages, it is important that the size of the food matches the mouth of the young fish. Hikari has therefore built up the Plankton series from three different food sizes: Early, Middle and Later. As the fry grow, they can gradually be switched to a larger food particle.
For young fish of approximately 18 to 30 mm
Hikari Plankton Later has a particle size of approximately 0.38 to 0.60 mm. This size is tailored to young fish that have outgrown the finer Early and Middle variants, but for which regular koi food is still too large.
The three growth stages within the series are:
Early: for fry of approximately 4 to 10 mm
Middle: for fry of approximately 8 to 20 mm
Later: for fry of approximately 18 to 30 mm
The stated fish lengths serve as a guideline. Always check during feeding whether the fish can easily take in the food. When not all fish in a group grow at the same rate, Middle and Later can temporarily be fed together during the transition.
Semi-floating microfood
Hikari Plankton has a semi-floating structure. This means that the fine food particles do not stay exclusively in one place on the water surface, but are accessible to fry that are at different water levels.
This is especially practical when rearing larger groups of young koi, where not every fish eats at exactly the same place or the same time.
Thin coating around the food
The small food particles are provided with a thin coating. This helps prevent the food from immediately breaking apart or dissolving as soon as it comes into contact with water.
This way, the nutrients remain better in the food particle until it is taken in by the young fish. At the same time, this helps to limit unnecessary loss of food in the water.
Nutrient-rich composition for the growth phase
Young koi are in an important developmental phase and need a nutrient-rich composition. Hikari Plankton is composed with selected fish meal as a protein source, among others.
In addition, the composition contains wheat flour, krill meal, soy meal, brewer's yeast, spirulina, seaweed, rice bran, carotenoids, garlic and the amino acid methionine.
The combination is specifically developed for fry and young fish that are still fully developing.
Analytical constituents
The guaranteed analysis of Hikari Plankton is:
Crude protein: minimum 48%
Crude fat: minimum 3%
Crude fiber: maximum 2%
Crude ash: maximum 18%
Phosphorus: minimum 1.3%
Moisture: maximum 10%
The high protein content matches the nutritional needs of young, growing fish.
Feeding advice
Hikari advises to feed young fish small amounts as often as possible daily. Give only the amount that the fish can completely take in within approximately 2 to 3 minutes per feeding.
Multiple small feedings are more suitable for fry than offering a large amount of food at once. Overfeeding can cause food to remain and unnecessarily stress the water quality.
Therefore, regularly check during rearing whether all the food is actually being taken in.
Last phase within Hikari Plankton
Plankton Later is the last and largest variant within the Hikari Plankton food system. When the young fish grow towards 30 mm and easily take in the Later food, you can gradually look at a suitable larger food for young koi.
The switch does not have to take place for all fish at the same time. Within a group, clear differences in growth can occur. Therefore, match the food size to the actual size and mouth opening of the fish.
The package contains 400 grams and is suitable for the targeted rearing of young koi and other suitable fry.
