It is not a universal ballast that can simply be connected to other PondClear models or UV-C devices. Within the PondClear series, different lamp wattages are used.

For example, the PondClear 3000 uses a 5 watt UV-C and the PondClear 6000 a 7 watt UV-C. The PondClear 12000, on the other hand, has a 13 watt UV-C and needs this suitable ballast for that.

Therefore, always check the exact filter model before ordering a new transformer.

When should the transformer be replaced?

When the UV-C lamp of the PondClear 12000 no longer lights up, the transformer does not automatically have to be defective.

First check the UV-C lamp itself. A UV-C lamp is a wear part and can stop functioning after prolonged use. Also connections and the lamp fitting can play a role when the lamp no longer switches on.

If a suitable and functioning 13 watt UV-C lamp also does not work, then the ballast can be a possible cause.

Therefore, before replacing parts, check:

• The UV-C lamp
• The lamp fitting
• The electrical connection
• The cable
• The ballast

This way you can more specifically determine which part needs to be replaced.

UV-C lamp not included

This product specifically concerns the red 13 watt ballast/transformer.

The 13 watt UV-C lamp itself is not included. When only the lamp is worn out or defective, it can be replaced separately without having to renew the transformer as well.

The quartz glass and the seals of the UV-C unit are also not included with this transformer.

Difference with the UV-C service kit

For the older PondClear 12000, in addition to this red ballast, separate parts for the UV-C construction are also available.

SuperFish uses a red UV 11-18 Watt Service Kit for this generation. This service kit has a different function than the transformer.

The PondClear 12000 Transformer 13 Watt provides the electrical control of the UV-C lamp.

The UV-C service kit contains parts around the quartz glass and the seal of the UV-C construction.

When, for example, the quartz glass is damaged, you do not automatically have to replace the ballast. Conversely, a new quartz glass does not solve a defective ballast.

Part of the PondClear 12000

The PondClear 12000 is a pond filter system in which mechanical and biological filtration are combined with UV-C treatment.

The complete filter is developed for ponds up to a maximum of 12,000 liters and has an integrated 13 watt UV-C.

The PondClear 12000 was also delivered as a complete filter set. With this kit, the filter is combined with a PondECO 4900 pond pump.

This data concerns the complete PondClear 12000 filter system and not the separate transformer, but is useful to check if you have the right model.

Not suitable for other PondClear models

This ballast is specifically intended for the 13 watt version of the PondClear 12000.

Therefore, do not use it for, for example:

• PondClear 3000 with 5 watt UV-C
• PondClear 6000 with 7 watt UV-C
• PondClear 24000
• Other SuperFish UV-C devices

Even when another device uses a UV-C lamp with a comparable wattage, this does not automatically mean that the connection and ballast are compatible.

Check red and green well

For the PondClear 12000, both a red and green 13 watt ballast are available.

The red version belongs to the older model generation and is designated as model <2023.

The green version is intended for the renewed generation. When ordering spare parts, the color of the existing ballast is therefore an important check.

Do not only look at the year in which the filter was purchased. After all, a filter may have been in stock at a supplier or store for a long time. Therefore, also actually check which color ballast is mounted on the filter.

Safe replacement

Because the ballast is an electrical part of the UV-C installation, the PondClear must be completely de-energized before you carry out work.

Switch off the pond pump and UV-C and remove the plugs from the socket. Open the UV-C construction only when you are sure that there is no longer any voltage on the installation.

During replacement, also check the cables, connections and surrounding parts for visible damage or moisture.

Mount the new ballast according to the construction of the existing filter and make sure that all parts are correctly mounted and sealed again before the installation is switched on again.

A UV-C lamp may never be switched on outside the housing intended for it. Also never look directly at an switched-on UV-C lamp.

Repair your PondClear 12000 specifically

SuperFish offers several parts of the PondClear 12000 separately. In addition to the transformer, for example, the UV-C service kit, drain cap, activated carbon mat and replacement filter foam are also available separately.

This allows you to specifically maintain an existing filter system and only replace the part that is actually defective or worn out.

With the PondClear 12000 Transformer 13 Watt <2023 you specifically replace the red UV-C ballast of the older PondClear 12000.

The PondClear 6000 Transformer 7 Watt <2023 - SuperFish is an original replacement part for the UV-C section of the older SuperFish PondClear 6000 pond filters. This version is recognizable by its red color and is specifically intended for PondClear 6000 models from before 2023.

The PondClear 6000 features an integrated 7 watt UV-C unit. The transformer, also known as a ballast or starter, provides the electrical control for the UV-C lamp. When this ballast becomes defective, the UV-C lamp can no longer function correctly.

With this separate SuperFish transformer, the specific electrical component can be replaced. This means you do not have to replace the entire PondClear 6000 pond filter when only the ballast is defective or damaged.

Red version for PondClear 6000 <2023

There are different versions of the UV-C ballast for the PondClear 6000. It is therefore important to check which variant is present on the filter before ordering.

This version is the:

PondClear 6000 – 7 Watt – Red – Model <2023

For the newer generation, there is also a green 7 watt ballast.

The color of the existing ballast is therefore an important check when choosing the correct spare part. If you have an older generation PondClear 6000 with a red ballast, this version is intended for that.

Original 7 watt UV-C ballast

This transformer is specifically matched to the 7 watt UV-C lamp of the PondClear 6000.

A UV-C lamp needs a suitable starter to function correctly. The ballast provides this electrical control.

When the ballast no longer functions, the rest of the filter system may still work. Water can still flow through the filter and the mechanical and biological filtration can remain active, while the UV-C lamp is no longer switched on.

With this separate ballast, this specific part of the installation can be repaired.

Specifically for the PondClear 6000

This ballast was developed as a spare part for the SuperFish PondClear 6000 and is not intended as a universal 7 watt UV-C transformer.

The PondClear 6000 is a pond filter in which biological and mechanical filtration are combined with an integrated UV-C unit.

The complete filter is specified for ponds up to a maximum of 6,000 liters and features a 7 watt UV-C lamp.

The system uses various filter materials to collect dirt and enable biological filtration. The UV-C forms an additional step in which the passing pond water is guided along the UV-C lamp.

Suitable 7 watt UV-C lamp

The PondClear 6000 uses a 7 watt UV-C PL lamp with G23 fitting.

The suitable SuperFish UV-C lamp has a length of approximately 135 mm. This is important when the UV-C lamp also needs to be replaced along with the transformer.

The lamp itself is not included with this ballast and must be ordered separately if necessary.

Always use a lamp with the correct power, the correct fitting and the correct dimensions for the PondClear 6000.

First check what is defective

When the UV-C of the PondClear 6000 no longer functions, this does not automatically mean that the transformer is defective.

The UV-C lamp itself can also be the cause. A UV-C lamp is a wear part whose effective UV-C output decreases during use. SuperFish advises replacing the lamp annually, with a maximum operating life of approximately 8,000 hours.

If the UV-C no longer lights up, therefore first check the lamp and the visible connections.

If a suitable and working 7 watt UV-C lamp is also not switched on, a defect in the ballast or electrical connection can be a possible cause.

UV-C lamp not included

This product specifically concerns the red 7 watt ballast for the older PondClear 6000.

The 7 watt UV-C lamp is not included. The quartz glass and the various seals around the UV-C construction are also not part of this transformer.

When only the UV-C lamp needs replacing, it can therefore be renewed separately without replacing the ballast.

Difference with the UV 7-9 Watt Service Kit

For the older PondClear 6000, in addition to this red ballast, a UV 7-9 Watt Service Kit Red is also available.

These two products have different functions.

The PondClear 6000 Transformer 7 Watt Red is the electrical starter for the UV-C lamp.

The UV 7-9 Watt Service Kit Red is intended for parts around the quartz glass and the seal of the UV-C construction.

With damaged quartz glass, you therefore do not automatically need a new ballast. With a defective ballast, replacing the quartz glass or the seals will not solve the electrical problem.

Do not confuse with the PondClear 3000

The PondClear 3000 and PondClear 6000 belong to the same filter series, but use different UV-C wattages.

The PondClear 3000 uses 5 watt UV-C, while the PondClear 6000 uses a 7 watt UV-C.

Separate ballasts are therefore available for both models.

Use this red 7 watt transformer exclusively for the older PondClear 6000 it is intended for.

Specifications of the PondClear 6000 filter

To check if you have the right filter, it is useful to know a few characteristics of the PondClear 6000.

The PondClear 6000 has a:

• Maximum specified pond volume of 6,000 liters
• UV-C wattage of 7 watts
• Maximum pump capacity of 5,000 liters per hour
• Hose connections of 25/32/40 mm

This data refers to the complete PondClear 6000 filter and not the separate transformer.

No universal 7 watt ballast

Another UV-C device may also use a 7 watt lamp, but that does not mean this SuperFish ballast fits it.

The electrical connection, construction and installation must match the device in question.

This transformer is therefore intended as a model-specific spare part for the SuperFish PondClear 6000 from before 2023 with red UV-C ballast.

Safe replacement

When replacing the ballast, you are working on an electrical component that is used near pond water. Therefore, always switch off the complete installation first.

Unplug the plugs from the socket and ensure that the UV-C is completely de-energized before you disassemble the parts.

During maintenance, also check the cables, connections, the quartz glass and the seals for visible damage.

Mount the new ballast correctly and ensure that all parts are fully sealed again before the installation is switched on again.

With the PondClear 6000 Transformer 7 Watt <2023, you specifically replace the red 7 watt UV-C ballast of the older version of the PondClear 6000.
